TIMELINE
- 1985 Berks AIDS Health Crisis formed as a
volunteer organization to help family members losing members from AIDS
- 1988 Pennsylvania provided the first
government funding for AIDS. Berks AIDS Health Crisis became a program unit
of Reading Urban Ministry; 31 clients served in the first 5 months.
- 1992 Name changed to Berks AIDS Network, an
independent agency, and property at 429 Walnut Street purchased for offices;
client number 500 received services.
- 1994 BAN and Berks County Red Cross received
National Red Cross AIDS prevention grant to expand public school prevention
programs.
- 1995 BAN's cumulative clients (those
infected and affected by HIV/AIDS) count reached 1,000 and prevention
programs introduced in all 18 county school districts.
- 1996 BAN became a member of the United Way
of Berks County and received a grant for school-based AIDS prevention
education. BAN also started Wellness Services with funding from the Spirit
of Saint Francis Fund and PA. Department of Health.
- 1997 BAN started a program unit in
Schuylkill County - Schuylkill Wellness Services.
- 1998 BAN designated as a publicly funded HIV
testing site; cumulative client count exceeded 1,400.
- 2000 BAN's client count exceeded 1,600.
- 2001 In March BAN's program unit in
Schuylkill County established an STD clinic.
- 2001 In December BAN established an STD
clinic in it's Reading office.
- 2002 BAN's clients exceed 1,700.
- 2003 BAN and SWS become program units of
Co-County Wellness Services (CCWS).
- 2004 BAN named the Berks County
Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit Organization of the Year.
- 2004 CCWS's client county exceeds
1,950.
